Chime Verification Code: Sign-In Codes and Changing Your Number

Chime texts a verification code to the phone number on your account when you log in, and again when you change that number. If the Chime verification code doesn’t arrive, or you no longer have the old number, Chime has a way back in for each case.
This guide covers when Chime sends codes, how to change your number, how to get back in without the old one, and which number to keep on a bank account.
When Chime sends a verification code
“Chime sends a confirmation code to your phone number when you log in to the app,” its help center says. Two-factor authentication (2FA) “adds a quick second step when you sign in with a password, like a code sent by text message or a phone call.” Turn it on under Profile > Security Center > Two-factor authentication.
| When | What Chime sends |
|---|---|
| Logging in to the app | A confirmation code to your phone number |
| Signing in with a password, 2FA on | A code by text message or phone call |
| Changing your phone number | A verification code to confirm the change |
| You forgot your email address | A text with your email address |
If the Chime code doesn’t arrive
- Check the number. It must match the one on your Chime account.
- Opt in to texts. If you haven’t, text START to 24463.
- Unblock 24463 if it’s on your blocked contacts list.
- Ask your carrier whether your plan can receive short-code texts.
- No longer have the number? Tap Need help? on the verification screen, then Update phone number.
How to change your phone number on Chime
- Tap Profile > Personal Info.
- Tap the pencil icon next to your phone number.
- Enter the new number and tap Next.
- Enter the verification code Chime sends, then tap Next.
You “may be asked to provide additional information to verify your account, such as a valid government-issued photo ID”. See Chime’s personal information guide.
How to get into Chime without your old phone number
- Update the number from the login screen. On the verification screen, tap Need help?, then Update phone number.
- Use a one-time login link. “Some members who are unable to log in to Chime may be eligible for a one-time login link.” It goes to your email, and you must open it on the device you requested it from.
- Still stuck? “If you can’t complete verification, contact us.” Chat in the app or call (844) 244-6363: “Our Member Services team is here for you 24/7.”
Which phone number to use for Chime
Chime asks for “A U.S. mobile phone number.” It confirms your details with a third-party verification service, and “You can only have one checking account with Chime.” A different phone number changes none of that.
What matters is keeping the number, because it’s how you log in. A 20-minute number is the wrong tool: once it expires, your next login code has nowhere to go. A free public number is worse, because anyone can read its codes. Choose one of these instead:
- Your own mobile number.
- A long-term US number (3, 7, 14 or 30 days) with auto-renew.
- A US All services number, which works on any website.
PVADeals numbers are real mobile lines from carriers, not VoIP, so Chime sees an ordinary mobile number, but we can’t promise it accepts every number. They receive SMS only, so choose text for 2FA. Stronger still is a passkey: it “lets you sign in with your phone’s Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint, or device PIN instead of typing a password”.
How to receive Chime codes on a PVADeals number
- Create a free PVADeals account and add credits: crypto from $3, or a card through Stripe from $5.
- Choose Chime from the list of websites, with the United States. If it isn’t listed, rent an All services number instead, which works on any website.
- Pick a long-term rental and turn on auto-renew, so you keep the same number.
- Add the number in Chime when you sign up, or under Profile > Personal Info.
- Copy the code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives.
If an eligible number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
Keep your Chime codes to yourself
“Don’t share your login details or verification codes with anyone,” Chime says. Its texts come from 24463 and 78740, and it “will only ask for a code when you contact us.”
