G2G Verification: Phone, Email and ID Checks

G2G verification code on a phone

G2G verification comes in layers. A one-time password (OTP) confirms your mobile number or email when you sign up, change your number or sign in from a new device. An identity check with a government ID and a selfie applies when the rules require it. A second mobile number can receive G2G’s codes, but it can’t stand in for your ID.

Here’s what each check needs, and how to handle the phone part.

Which G2G verification checks need what

Check When G2G asks What you need
Phone OTP Signing up with a mobile number, or changing it A mobile number from a legitimate carrier
OTP by text or email Signing in from a new or different device Your number or your email
Multi-factor authentication Every sign-in, if you turn it on A text message or an authenticator app
Seller Verification Before you start selling A verified mobile number, then a one-time check
Identity verification When AML and KYC rules apply A physical government ID and a selfie

Can you use G2G without a phone number?

Partly. G2G’s sign-up guide lets you register with Facebook, Google, Twitter or PayPal, or with your mobile number. Selling is different: to become a seller you “create a new account, and verify your mobile phone number”, then complete a one-time Seller Verification.

G2G also checks that your number matches how you pay. If “Our security system has detected a mismatch between your account phone number and the country of your payment method”, you either update the number or submit proof of identity. So pick a number from the same country as your card or payment account.

Which phone numbers G2G accepts

  • Mobile only. “Only mobile phone numbers are accepted for registration.” G2G adds that “Landlines and VOIP numbers (e.g., virtual numbers) will not receive OTP codes.”
  • Legitimate carriers. G2G “only accepts mobile numbers from legitimate carriers.”
  • No blacklisted numbers. A blacklisted number “cannot be used to register or update your account”, and G2G support can’t override that.
  • One change a month. “You may update your mobile phone number once per month.”

A non-VoIP number from PVADeals is a real mobile number from a carrier, so G2G sees an ordinary mobile number. G2G lists “Creating multiple accounts” among its reasons for suspension, so use one number on one account.

How to verify G2G with a PVADeals number

  1. Create a free PVADeals account and add credits: crypto from $3, or a card through Stripe from $5.
  2. Choose G2G from the list of websites, in the country of your payment method: the United States or the United Kingdom. If G2G isn’t listed for your country, rent an All services number instead, which works on any website.
  3. Rent long-term (3, 7, 14 or 30 days) if you’ll keep the account. A short-term number lasts 20 minutes.
  4. Sign up on G2G with the number, or add it under Account Settings, Privacy & Security, and request the OTP.
  5. Copy the code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives, and enter it on G2G.
  6. Turn on multi-factor authentication with an authenticator app, under Settings, Account, then Security.

Short-term or long-term?

G2G keeps using your number, and you can change it only once a month. Recovery is the bigger issue. If your number is already registered and you’ve lost the email, G2G asks you to “provide phone bills from the last 3 months to verify your identity”, and you won’t have phone bills for a rented number.

So keep your email secure, use an authenticator app, and rent long-term with auto-renew. For an account that holds a balance, your own number is the safest choice.

ID verification needs your own documents

G2G verifies identities under AML and KYC rules, “especially when transactions involve foreign currencies.” Only physical documents are accepted: a valid government-issued ID such as a driver’s license, passport or ID card, followed by a selfie. A phone number plays no part in that check.

If the G2G code doesn’t arrive

  • Don’t keep requesting. G2G says “requesting multiple OTPs within a short period will result in a temporary hold on OTP generation.” Wait a few minutes.
  • “Try again later” or “Limit exceeded”? Wait 24 hours, or contact G2G Support with your full number, including the international code.
  • No SMS on a PVADeals number? If an eligible number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.

Keep your personal number off G2G

A non-VoIP number from PVADeals receives G2G’s one-time passwords without your personal number. See our US phone numbers and the prices below, or read our guides for Battle.net and Discord.

Frequently asked questions

Does G2G require ID verification?
When regulations require it, yes. G2G says it “operates in regions governed by Anti-Money Laundering (AML) laws” and asks for a physical government-issued ID and a selfie. A phone number can’t replace that check.
Can I use G2G without a phone number?
You can sign up with Facebook, Google, Twitter or PayPal instead of a mobile number. Sellers still have to verify a mobile phone number before they can start selling.
Does G2G accept VoIP or virtual numbers?
No. G2G says “Landlines, VoIP, and virtual numbers are not supported.” A non-VoIP number from PVADeals is a real mobile number from a carrier, though G2G decides which numbers it accepts.
Why does G2G say my phone number and payment country don’t match?
The number on your account is from a different country than your payment method. G2G asks you to update the number to match, or to submit proof of identity if you’re travelling or using an international card.
