Grailed Phone Verification Without Your Personal Number

Grailed, the marketplace for designer and vintage menswear, may ask you to verify a phone number before you can sign up, buy or make an offer. If you’d rather not attach your personal number to a resale account, a temporary non-VoIP number can receive the code for you.
This guide explains when Grailed asks for a number, how its verification works, how to verify with a temporary number, and when you’ll want to keep the number for longer.
Why does Grailed ask for your phone number?
Grailed’s verification screen is titled “Verify Your Phone Number” and explains: “Verifying your identity helps us protect buyers and sellers.” It also promises: “We will never display this number publicly.”
You may see it when you create an account, when you tap Purchase, or when you make an offer on a listing. Grailed doesn’t show it to everyone, so don’t be surprised if a friend never got asked.
The number can matter later, too. Grailed’s terms say: “Where you have provided your phone number or email address during or after the registration process, you agree for us to send you security codes by text message or email to verify your identity as a registered user.” They also allow Grailed to suspend an account for failing to “verify your identity when prompted.”
How Grailed’s phone verification works
The flow is short:
- Choose your country. The list starts on the United States.
- Enter your phone number and tap Send Code.
- Enter the 4-digit code Grailed texts you, and tap Verify.
There’s no option to get the code by phone call, which suits a PVADeals number: ours receive SMS only. Sign-in codes on Grailed’s website are a separate thing: those go to your email.
Which numbers work for Grailed?
Grailed doesn’t publish a list of the number types it accepts. What matters is that the number receives SMS reliably and hasn’t been used by lots of other people.
| Number type | Works for Grailed? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Free public receive-SMS number | Rarely | Shared by everyone and often already used on the same site |
| VoIP or app number | Unreliable | Many marketplaces screen out internet-based numbers |
| Fresh non-VoIP (mobile) number | Usually | A real carrier line that receives SMS like any phone |
A non-VoIP number is a real mobile number from a carrier. Read more about VoIP vs non-VoIP numbers, or see how to check if a number is VoIP.
How to verify Grailed with a temporary number

- Create a free PVADeals account and add credits: crypto from $3, or a card through Stripe from $5.
- Choose Grailed and the United States as the country.
- Pick a rental length. A short-term number lasts 20 minutes; a long-term number lasts 3, 7, 14 or 30 days.
- On Grailed’s verification screen, keep the United States selected, enter the number and tap Send Code.
- Copy the 4-digit code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives, and tap Verify.
Short-term or long-term: which should you choose?
A short-term number (20 minutes) is enough to pass the check, and it costs the least. After that it’s gone, and reuse after the 20 minutes isn’t guaranteed.
Grailed can ask you to verify your identity again, and it may do so by text message. If you buy or sell on Grailed regularly, a long-term number (3 to 30 days, renewable for as long as you like) stays yours, so you can answer those checks whenever they come. Either way, use an email address you check: Grailed resets passwords by email.
One exception: if you become a high-volume seller (Grailed’s definition is someone who “has sold 200 or more new or unused items totaling more than $5,000”), the INFORM Act requires you to provide and verify your name, address and phone number. Use your own permanent contact details for that.
If Grailed still won’t accept the number
- “Invalid phone number format” means the number or country doesn’t match. Check that the United States is selected and that you pasted the number without extra digits.
- “Unable to send code” is Grailed’s general error. Wait a moment and try again, or try a different number.
- Code didn’t arrive? Tap Resend Code once the button is active again.
- No SMS at all? If an eligible number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
Keep your personal number private
A temporary non-VoIP number from PVADeals verifies your Grailed account without your personal number.
