Poshmark Phone Number Verification With a Temporary Number

Poshmark asks you to verify a mobile number when you create an account, and it keeps using that number to protect your account afterwards. If you’d rather not attach your personal number to a resale app, a temporary non-VoIP number can receive the code for you.

When does Poshmark ask for your phone number?

According to Poshmark’s help center, you’re asked to verify a phone number when you create an account: you enter a mobile number and Poshmark texts you a code. After that, the number has two more jobs:

• Protecting account changes. Once text verification is set up, Poshmark sends codes by SMS when you change key details such as your email, address, password or redemption information.
• Recovering your account. Poshmark uses the number to help you get back into a lost or locked account.

Sellers can be asked again. Poshmark’s seller verification policy says: “We may ask sellers to verify their phone numbers to ensure that they’re a real person, and to help in the recovery of a lost account.”

Which numbers work for Poshmark?

Poshmark’s help center lists a VoIP number among the reasons a code may not arrive, because Poshmark is unable to verify VoIP numbers.

How to verify Poshmark with a temporary number

2. Choose Poshmark and the United States as the country. Choosing a US state or area code is optional.
3. Pick a rental length. A short-term number lasts 20 minutes; a long-term number lasts 3, 7, 14 or 30 days.
4. Enter the number when Poshmark asks you to verify your phone, with the +1 country code.

Short-term or long-term: which should you choose?

A short-term number (20 minutes) is enough to receive the sign-up code, and it costs the least. After that it’s gone, and reuse after the 20 minutes isn’t guaranteed.

Selling on Poshmark? Use a number you’ll keep

Selling comes with stricter rules. Poshmark’s seller verification policy asks every seller for their full name, date of birth, residential address, phone number and Social Security Number (SSN). Its terms add: “You must provide accurate information about your identity and must not provide any false information”.

So if you sell, your phone number is part of your verified seller identity and your way back into the account. Use a number you’ll keep for as long as you sell: a long-term number with auto-renew, or your own. Never a 20-minute number.

If Poshmark still won’t verify the number

• Check the number. A mistyped number is the first reason Poshmark’s help center gives for a missing code.
• Make sure it isn’t VoIP. Poshmark can’t verify VoIP numbers, so use a fresh non-VoIP number.
• Request a new code. It’s Poshmark’s own advice when a code doesn’t arrive.
• No SMS at all? If an eligible number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
