Stash Verification Code and Phone Number Help

A Stash verification code is a one-time code that confirms it’s really you, for example when you verify your phone number or sign in with two-factor authentication. Stash says it uses your phone number and email “to help protect your account, send important notices, and confirm certain changes.”
Here’s what the code is for, how to contact Stash, how to change your number, and which number to use.
What the Stash verification code is for
- Protecting your login. Stash’s security page says: “Stash also offers two-factor authentication to all active debit account customers for additional security.”
- Confirming your contact details. You can update or verify your phone number in the app or on the web, and Stash may also prompt you to verify your email after you sign in.
- Avoiding lockouts. Keeping your phone number and email current “helps prevent avoidable lockouts.”
Keep the code to yourself. Stash’s advice: “Never share your Stash password, verification codes, or full account number with anyone.”
Contacting Stash
If you’re looking for the Stash phone number, here’s how Stash says to reach it:
| Channel | Details |
|---|---|
| Phone | 1-800-205-5164, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET |
| support@stash.com | |
| App and website | Sign in through the Stash app or stash.com |
Stash names these as the safest ways to contact it: “Use the Stash app, the Stash website, 1-800-205-5164, or support@stash.com.” It also says it “will never ask you to share your password or verification code by email or text,” so a message asking for your code isn’t from Stash.
Changing the phone number on your Stash account
- Still signed in? “You can usually update your number from the app or web in a few minutes.”
- Locked out because your number changed? Contact Stash Support. “For your protection, Stash may need to verify your identity before updating the phone number or email address tied to your account.”
- Don’t open a new account. Stash says: “If you cannot access the email or phone number from your old account, contact Support before creating a new account.”
The full steps are in Stash’s account management FAQ.
Which phone number should you use for Stash?
Stash holds your investments and banking, and its terms ask for “true, accurate and complete information”, including your telephone number. They also say: “You agree not to register or subscribe for more than one username, create an account on behalf of someone else, or create a false or misleading identity on the Platform.”
So the number has to be one you keep:
- Your own number is the simplest choice.
- A long-term number on auto-renew keeps your personal number private and stays yours. An All services plan works too.
- Never a 20-minute number. Once it’s gone, you can’t receive Stash’s codes, and changing a number while you’re locked out can mean an identity check with Support.
A different number doesn’t change who you are to Stash, and it isn’t a way around its identity checks.
How to receive Stash codes on a PVADeals number
- Create a free PVADeals account and add credits: crypto from $3, or a card through Stripe from $5.
- Choose Stash from the list of websites for the United States. If it isn’t listed, rent an All services number instead, which works on any website.
- Pick a long-term rental (3, 7, 14 or 30 days) and turn on auto-renew.
- Update your phone number in the Stash app or on the web.
- Copy the code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives, and enter it in Stash.
PVADeals numbers are real non-VoIP numbers from carriers, so Stash sees an ordinary mobile number. They receive SMS only, and no number is guaranteed to be accepted. If an eligible number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
Keep Stash’s codes off your personal phone
A long-term number from PVADeals is renewable for as long as you keep your Stash account. See our US phone numbers and the prices below, or read our guides for Dave, GO2bank and Kikoff.
