Walmart Verification Code Text: What It Is and How to Use It

A Walmart verification code is a one-time code that Walmart sends to confirm it’s really you. The Walmart verification code text arrives when you create an account, when you sign in without a password or with two-factor authentication, and when Walmart checks the mobile number on your account.

Asked for it? Enter it on Walmart’s page. Didn’t? Don’t share it. And if you’d rather keep your personal number off Walmart, a second mobile number can receive the codes.

Why does Walmart text you a verification code?

Every Walmart account now needs a phone number: “Walmart now requires a valid phone number for every new and existing Walmart account even if the customer previously shopped with us before.” Codes show up here:

Got a Walmart code you didn’t request?

An unexpected code usually means someone entered your number on Walmart’s sign-in or sign-up page, by mistake or on purpose.

• Don’t share it or enter it. Walmart’s security advice: “Never provide personal or financial information in response to an unsolicited request.”
• Don’t trust a caller who asks for it. Walmart says to “hang up and then call the business or individual back with a trusted number.”
• Check your account. For charges or orders you don’t recognize, Walmart says to reset your password immediately and contact your bank.

Which numbers work for the Walmart verification code?

Walmart’s rule: “Use a mobile phone number that can receive text messages.” Also:

• One account per number. “A phone number can only be linked to one Walmart account at a time.” Use it for a new account and Walmart removes it from any other account.
• A 45-day lock. “If we’ve verified a phone number using a one-time password (OTP) within the past 45 days, that number can’t be used to create an account.”

That rules out free public numbers, ours included: anyone can read their codes, and one verified on Walmart in the last 45 days can’t create your account.

How to get a Walmart verification code on a PVADeals number

2. Choose Walmart and a country: the United States or the United Kingdom.
3. Pick a rental: long-term (3, 7, 14 or 30 days) for an account you’ll keep, or short-term (20 minutes); see below.
4. On Walmart’s Create Your Walmart Account page, enter the number as your mobile phone number and select Continue.
5. Copy the code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives. Enter it and select Verify number and create account.

Short-term or long-term for Walmart?

A short-term number (20 minutes) covers the sign-up code. But password-less sign-in and two-factor authentication can send later codes to your phone, and Walmart asks you to keep your account’s mobile number up to date before checkout.

So if you’ll keep the account, use a long-term number on auto-renew (it stays the same while you renew), an All services plan, or your own number.

Your email matters even more: Walmart sends password-reset codes and mobile-number updates there. If you can’t access it to update your number, its account help page says “you must set up a new Walmart account to continue shopping with us.”

If the Walmart code doesn’t arrive

• Number refused? Walmart won’t create an account with a number it verified in the past 45 days. Try a different one.
• Email code missing? Check spam or junk, use the email you signed up with, and request a new code after 30 minutes.
• No SMS at all? If an eligible PVADeals number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
