How Many TikTok Accounts Can You Have? Limits and Rules

How many TikTok accounts can you have? TikTok doesn’t publish a maximum. Its help center says you can add more than one account to your device and switch between them, and its Community Guidelines allow multiple accounts. The real limit is the login: every account needs its own phone number or email address.
This guide covers what TikTok’s rules allow, how to add and switch accounts, and how to give a second account its own phone number instead of your personal one.
How many TikTok accounts can you have?
TikTok’s help center puts it simply: “You can add additional accounts to your device and switch between them on TikTok.” It doesn’t give a number, either for one device or in total.
What it does limit is the login: “Each phone number, email address, and social media account can only be linked to one TikTok account.” So every extra account needs a login method you haven’t used before.
| Login method | Can it sign up another account? |
|---|---|
| A phone number already on a TikTok account | No: one account per number |
| An email already on a TikTok account | No: one account per email |
| A different email address | Yes |
| A different phone number | Yes |
| The number of an account you deleted | After 30 days |
On that last row: a deleted account “will be deactivated for 30 days and then erased permanently. After 30 days, you can connect that phone number to a new account.”
Can you have multiple TikTok accounts? What the rules say
Yes. TikTok’s Community Guidelines say “You can have multiple accounts” (its examples are fan content and creative expression) “but not to deceive others or break the rules.”
The line TikTok draws is about deception and getting around enforcement:
- No ban evasion. “If your account is restricted or banned, you may not create or use another account to get around it.” TikTok lists this among its reasons for permanent bans.
- Linked accounts can go together. “If someone seriously breaks the rules or tries to dodge enforcement, we may ban all of their accounts, including associated accounts.”
- No automation. “We strictly prohibit automation tools, scripts, or other tricks designed to bypass our systems.”
- No fake engagement. TikTok doesn’t allow “the trade of services that artificially boost engagement or trick the recommendation system.”
So a second account for your business, a niche or a different audience is fine. A new account to come back from a ban isn’t, and a different phone number doesn’t change that.
How to add or switch TikTok accounts
TikTok’s help center gives these steps:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap your nickname.
- Tap Add account to create another TikTok account, or choose to switch accounts.
You can also switch accounts in your TikTok settings. When you create the new account, use a login method your other account doesn’t use. TikTok’s troubleshooting tip: “You need to create new accounts with a different login method.”
Why give a second account its own phone number?
An email is enough to sign up. A phone number is still worth having on each account: TikTok uses it to help you log in, to reset your password and for 2-step verification. It isn’t shown on your profile: “Your email and mobile phone number aren’t visible on your TikTok profile.”
Putting your personal number on a second account has a privacy cost, though. TikTok may suggest your account to people who have your number in their phone contacts, if you’ve added your number, your Contacts setting is on and they’ve synced their contacts. A business account or an anonymous creator account with its own number can’t be matched to your personal number that way. You can also turn this off in Settings and privacy > Privacy > Suggest your account to others.
How to get a TikTok verification code on a second number
- Create a free PVADeals account and add credits: crypto from $3, or a card through Stripe from $5.
- Choose TikTok and the country: the United States or the United Kingdom.
- Pick a rental. A short-term number lasts 20 minutes, from $0.09; a long-term number lasts 3, 7, 14 or 30 days, from $0.70.
- In TikTok, tap Add account and sign up with a phone number. Select the right country code (+1 for the US, +44 for the UK) and enter the number.
- Copy the code from your PVADeals dashboard, where it appears as soon as it arrives, and finish signing up.
- Add an email address to the new account too, in Settings and privacy > Account > Account Information.
Short-term or long-term?
- Short-term (20 minutes) is enough to sign up. Afterwards the number is gone, and reuse isn’t guaranteed. TikTok notes that “Mobile numbers are not permanently assigned to individuals,” and if someone later signs up with the same number, TikTok will “remove the phone number from the other account and associate it with the new account.” Add an email before the rental ends.
- Long-term (3 to 30 days, renewable) keeps the same number, so it can keep receiving TikTok’s codes. That matters if you log in with the number or use it for 2-step verification. Turn on auto-renew to keep it.
Changing the number later needs both numbers working: TikTok says “both the old and the new phone number associated with the account must be active and verified.” With a short-term number, make any changes while the rental is still active.
For stronger security, turn on 2-step verification in Settings and privacy > Security & permissions. TikTok asks you to “Select at least two verification methods”, and an authenticator app is one of the options.
If the TikTok verification code doesn’t arrive
- Check the country code. TikTok’s first tip is to “Select the correct country code.”
- Check the number and ask again. If the number is right, request a new code.
- “This phone number is already registered”? The number is linked to another TikTok account, perhaps an old one from a previous owner. TikTok lets you tap “Continue with this number”, which moves the number to your new account, or you can sign up with an email instead.
- No SMS at all? If an eligible PVADeals number receives no SMS during the rental, its cost comes back to your balance automatically as store credit.
A second TikTok account without your personal number
A real non-VoIP number gives a second TikTok account its own login, from $0.09 for 20 minutes or $0.70 for 3 days. See our US and UK phone numbers, or read our guides for Instagram, Snapchat and WhatsApp.
